About Us
Northern IL Police K-9 memorial is a 501©3 non-profit corporation that was incorporated on January 1, 2011. Our goal is to raise money to to honor and memorialize Police K-9’s that died either in the line of duty or after retirement. There is no charge to the handler or police department to have their K-9 included in the memorial. This monument was built solely on donations.
We consider Northern Illinois to be any city north of Route 72. The monument has 180 tiles surrounding it, the tiles are engraved with the K-9’s name, the department name, the date they went into service and the date they passed away.
The yearly ceremony is held on September 26th, to honor those K-9’s that passed away since the previous year’s ceremony.
The cutoff to submit dogs for that year’s ceremony will be July 1st. After July 1st any dogs submitted will be included in the following years ceremony.
To submit your Police K-9 please email the following information, Name, Handlers name, department name, date of service and the date they passed away. Any Police dogs being submitted that passed away after retirement must have retired from a Northern Illinois Police Department in good standing. Please include a picture that we can post on our website, facebook page, program for ceremony and for fund-raising events.
